Rubel Hossain, the fastest bowler in Bangladesh cricket was born on 1st January, 1990 at Bagerhat, Khulna, Bangladesh. His father’s name is Siddikur Rahman. Rubel was born in a very poor family. His father was barely able to provide the daily basic requirements for his family. In this post of SUJONHERA.COM, you will know about the struggle of a poor young lad who has gained success by playing cricket.
Rubel loved to play cricket from his childhood. He was a good batsman in his early life. No bowler was able to get his wicket easily. But, he was too poor to see his future in the national level. Suddenly, a great opportunity came to him in 2006. The biggest mobile operator Grameenphone arranged a campaign of searching pace bowlers from the root level of Bangladesh. They took this initiative in order to help the Bangladesh cricket by finding some fast bowlers.
Rubel applied in this campaign and bowled at 72 miles/hour at first. He was rejected for that time. He came again and bowled at 82 miles/hour at the next chance. Then, he got the eyes of the selectors of the Pacer Hunt Programme.
Rubel Hossain’s father Siddikur Rahman did not like to let his son play cricket. He rebuked Rubel a lot for playing cricket. But, the irresistible Rubel played cricket despite his father’s orders. As a result, his father stopped his studies.
He asked his father for money for going to Dhaka, Bangladesh after being selected in the pacer hunt programme. But, his father was unable to give him money due to poverty. Somehow Rubel came to Dhaka from Bagerhat by sitting at the roof of a bus. He had no place to live in Dhaka. BCB arranged a place for him after knowing about his talent.
Thus, the batsman Rubel Hossain turned into the pacer Rubel Hossain. Although he is concentrating on his bowling now, he is also capable of batting at lower order. So, he is actually a pacer cum all-rounder in Bangladesh team.
Rubel has an action similar to Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga. This side arm action made him different from other pace bowlers. He was able to bowl quickly and give good bouncers and yorkers. Thus, Rubel was debuted for the Chittagong Division in the first-class cricket in 2007. In his first match against Khulna Division, he took 1 wicket. He made his way to the under-19 Bangladesh team by performing well in the National Cricket League. Eventually, he got his debut in the national cricket team also.
This right arm fast bowler played his first ODI match against Sri Lanka in 14th January, 2009. He got 4 wickets by bowling only 5.3 overs in that debut match. On 29th October, 2013, he became the third Bangladeshi bowler and the first Bangladeshi pacer to do hat-trick in ODI against New Zealand. The New Zealand middle order: Corey Anderson, Brendon McCullum and Jimmy Nisham were his victims. Thus, Rubel contributed to the Banglawash!
His test debut was on 9th July, 2009 against West Indies. He played for Sylhet Royals in the BPL 2012. In the next BPL in 2013, he was picked by Chittagong Kings.
This gem of Bangladesh cricket has been accused of raping one of the newcomers in Bangladeshi Movie named Naznin Akter Happy. The case is still in progress and Rubel is currently in the 30 members squad for the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2015. We hope, this paceman can improve his bowling and contribute for the cricket of Bangladesh.
