Chashi Nazrul Islam: Bangladeshi Filmmaker Biography & Photos

Chashi Nazrul Islam was one of the best Bangladeshi Bangla Filmmakers. He was a famous director and producer. He was born on October 23, 1941 in the village Shamashpur, under the police station Sri NagarBikrampur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He died on 11th January, 2015 in Lab Aid Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Chashi’s father, Mosleh Uddin Khan was an engineer, who worked for Tata Iron & Steal Company at Jamshedpur, Bihar, India. His mother, Shayesta Khanom was a housewife. Among the 4 brothers and 3 sisters, Nazrul was the eldest. From his childhood, Chashi always wanted to be a hero like Dilip Kumar. He was a great fan of this great actor. So, he wanted to watch all the movies of Dilip Kumar. Sometimes, he sold his own books and even his friends books after stealing, to get money and watch the films.

At the age of 16, Chashi’s father passed away. Then he got a job at his uncle’s office. But, he was irregular in the office, doing cultural programs all the day. Soon, he was sacked from the job.
He was a member of the Krishti Sangha, a theatre organization. After getting rid of the job, he started to work in radio dramas like Ramer Sumoti [1965], Socrates [1966], Sokhina Birangona [1974] etc. He also started working as an assistant director of the movie named Dui Digonto, directed by Obaidur Rahman in 1964. After that, he also assited in Fateh Lohani.

During the Liberation War in 1971, he participated in the war actively. After returning from the war, he made the famous first movie on Liberation War “Ora Egaro Jon” in 1972. Later he directed and produced a lot of movies like Sangram [1974], Bhalo Manus [1975], Bajimat [1978], Devdas [1982], Chandrakotha [1985], Shuva [1986], Lady Smuggler [1986], Mia Bhai [1987], Behula Lakhindar [1987], Biraha Betha [1988], Mahajuddha [1988], Basona [1989], Danga Fasad [1990], Padma Meghna Jamuna [1991], Ajker Protibad [1995], Shilpi [1995], Hangor Nodi Grenade [1995], Hasan Raja [2001], Kamalpurer Juddha [2002], Megher Pore Megh [2004], Shasti [2005], Shuva [2005], Dhrubatara [2006], Devdas [2013].

HOW HE DIED:

On 7th December, 2014, he felt pain in his abdomen. Soon, he was admitted in the Lab Aid Hospital, Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. After some investigations, doctors found that he has been suffering from Liver Cancer. During the treatment of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy, this renowned person died, leaving all his fans and Bangla movie lovers in deep sorrow, at 6:00 a.m [BST] on 11th January, 2015. May his soul rest in peace.
